Author Robert Dennis Wilson has created a fascinating and complex world for his Dragonsback chronicles, detailing its customs, places and characters in extensive tables and appendices at the back of the book The story itself is filled with analogies from Christian faith and the Bible, evoking Pilgrim s Progress and other books of that type An underlying theme of thorns representing our self inflicted wounds of guilt and unforgiveness is very nicely drawn. Two boys, marooned in an orphanage, are s [...]

Book 1 of The Dragon s Back Series reads somewhat like a Lewis, Tolkien or even a Rowling Full of heraldry and lore in a make believe otherworld, this novel is full of action and adventure sure to please anyone who enjoys a good fantasy story I felt it s main appeal would be for a YA market, but anyone who likes fantasy with an unapologetic Christian worldview should enjoy it It s actually a story within a story, as author R.D Wilson starts the book with a grandfather telling his troubled grands [...]

The Poison of Thorns, The Dragon s Back 1, is Christian themed Fantasy high adventure, which uses the framed story, or story within a story technique, specifically a grandfather Pop Pop metaphorically explaining self esteem to his grandson.Robert Dennis Wilson has created a fantasy world, which is dominated by heraldry and tradition, where two brothers go on a quest to save the world from heresy The author has cleverly folded in an elaborate back story and a dominating culture of established pro [...]

THE POISON OF THORNS The Dragon s Back 1, by Robert Dennis Wilson, unfolds as an intriguing and action packed Christian Fantasy with bards, dragons, swords, and mysterious black robed villains lurking in the shadows What I loved most about this story is that if you have a un apologetic Christian point of view, this would resonate strongly, if you do not have such a pov it transforms into a beautiful fantasy adventure The two main characters are young teenage boys This said, nothing in the story [...]

    Carol

The Poison of Thorns is a definite read for all those who are interested in spiritual warfare and or deliverance.

    Lauren

This is a book about two brothers who pick between good and evil I enjoyed the development through the story However This is paranormal and Christian religion intermixed WaAR

    Jennie

NO NO NO Just absolutely fucking no The writing was clunky and rough and ponderous to read The characters were one dimensional and the contrivance of grandpa telling a story to grandkid was played out about a million years ago with The Princess Bride The characters aren t built before things start happening to them The world is complex but seems to be complex just for the sake of complexity The supporting characters have motivations that you get to know they have, but no explanation of WHY they [...]

On the plus side, the background of this world is marvellously well developed history, geography, culture, economy, and so on all very well developed The writing has a smooth flow that makes it easy to get into, and the allegory s of Christianity are very clear. On the down side, the plot seems confused at times Bits seem to be missed out, and the switching between our world and Dragon Back doesn t add anything that I can see There are a lot of spelling mistakes, and in general a feeling that the [...]

I almost closed the book without finishing, but there was something there It s definitely a take off on the Biblical Christian stories, but the author s take on Thorns what they do to humans is intriguing I especially liked when Jason got to opening his pack, and the explanation of the secret thorns people hold A real gem for my spiritual journey I really, truly wish it was better written.

This one earned only a weak two stars I did read the entire thing, although it was a struggle at times It is a barely disguised Christian tale badly in need of proper editing The whole grandfather grandson thing added nothing to the story at all.

Really Great Christian Fantasy Fiction I enjoyed this journey into an alternative world Sci Fi and Fantasy fiction lovers like me will enjoy this book very much.
