4.5 out of 5 stars.I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review Doing so does not sway my review in any way.As you ve seen with the synopsis, Shelter deals with physical abuse from a father to his family I ve been one of the lucky ones that grew up in a loving family that did not endure such cruelty, but I ve always been well aware that it happens often than it s heard about The author, Pat Aust, hits on all the mai [...]

This is an absolutely amazing book There s a lot to admire here, but the thing that keeps sticking with me is just how realistic it feels Roberto the abusive dad isn t horrible all the time I also appreciated how Mike could miss his dad so much, especially early He s a horrible guy but he s still Mike s dad.I appreciated that because I feel like a lot of the time, abuse is portrayed as something that a begins immediately and b never stops But it s not like the abuser punches you on your first da [...]
Sometimes a book comes along and makes an impact not only on your heart but your very soul itself and Shelter is one of those books This is one of the hardest books I have ever read It deals with physical and mental abuse and the author doesn t shy away from showing you the harsh reality that many families face from this I knew what this book was about going into it but I had no idea just how much of an impact the story would have on me I ve never had to deal with this in my life but I had a clo [...]
I felt so bad for this family So many people live with domestic abuse and can not get away What I really liked about this book was that Miguel s mom got her and her sister out it was not all pretty flowers though It was true to life and they moved into a shelter The ending was not what I expected, but I am proud of the character that took a stance to save their loved ones I am also happy that the author wrote this book, which I assume was not easy, to help spread awareness I am giving this book [...]
